The research group of Prof. Sandra Ciesek at the Institute of Medical Virology at Goethe University seeks a highly motivated PhD student to join our research team. The Ciesek lab is interested in understanding host-cell signaling mechanisms that regulate viral pathogenesis of RNA viruses and identify host targets that are relevant for innovative therapeutics. The position will focus on virus-host interactions and novel antiviral strategies against flaviviruses such as Dengue virus. The successful applicant will work with in an interdisciplinary team of scientists and physicians.

Your role - Optimize and compare advanced virus infection cell culture models of flaviviruses
- Validating antiviral targets for DENV and other flaviviruses
- Characterize cellular response against antiviral substances (proteome, immune signaling, etc) to mechanistically dissect virus-host interactions on a molecular and cell-biological level
- Work with RNA viruses (e.g. Dengue, Zika) in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 environment
- Collaborate with wet lab scientists and medical staff
Who you are - Master's degree in Infectiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field in the life sciences
- Ideally background or specialization in virology
- Experience working with cell culture models and molecular biology methods
- Strong written and spoken English language communication skills
- Highly motivated, organized, collaborative and independent
- Due to legal regulations, valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required
