The Engineering Design Manager, reports to the SVP of Development and Construction, and is responsible for design decisions related to a portfolio of datacenter projects which can include: new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, mechanical equipment selections, and the development of design standards, processes and procedures. This role will develop long-term business strategies aligned with key Prime stakeholders to manage the relationship and output of key design partners and equipment suppliers for their assigned projects.
Responsibilities:
Leads and manages innovation & development, master planning/concept design, standards and technical review.
Leads regional design team partners to adopt and accommodate standards and best practices for design.
Collaborates with construction and procurement teams to effectively procure, install, and commission design solutions.
Collaborates with operations teams to ensure design standards and best practices with their requirements.
Support Site Operations to troubleshoot /tune existing systems.
Develops a roadmap for innovation, investigation of new products and services, and how they will be assimilated into standards.
Develops PDC’s designs and core design philosophies such as reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency with internal and external customers and suppliers.
Provides master planning/concept designs as part of PDC’s investment planning, review, and approval process.
Oversees detailed technical review process with regional design leads to assure that project designs meet the design standards and business case requirements.
Opines on proposed deviations to the standards or the requirements.
Collaborates closely cross-functionally – Construction, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Product, Marketing, Corporate Development, etc – to represent and develop all data center design requirements.
Work closely with Construction, Procurement, and Operations to find a balance between cost effective solutions & operational sustainability.
Meets with customers to understand and incorporate requirements.
Lead mechanical design efforts for deployment of new data centers, ensuring corporate standards and customer requirements are met.
Interface and lead mechanical design consultants and contractors on a per-project basis.
Coordinate review process of engineering studies of all types. xvii. Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for technical reviews including engineering studies/analyses.
Lead all aspects of the review process of engineering studies.
Provide oversight and review of project level design plans, equipment, and system submittals. xxi. Management of internal and external design teams and design consultants.
Coordinate heavily with internal teams across all areas to ensure products delivered into operation are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions.
Assist in development and maintenance of sustainability benchmarking and innovation to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner. xxiv. Lead project design team meetings and ensure product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications.
Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyse the following:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies
Psychrometric chart evaluation
ASHRAE extreme annual design day temperatures and relative impact to supply air temperatures xxix. Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculations.
Participation in FWT of critical equipment.
Review consultants' engineering calculations, run independent engineering and cost analysis.
