The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is a panel study established in 2004 that collects socio-economic and biomedical life course data from people aged 50 and over (approx.160,000 to date) in almost 30 countries. It provides internationally comparable longitudinal microdata for scientific research and policy advice. As Europe's largest social science panel study and one of the major European research infrastructures in the field of social sciences, SHARE also has the legal form of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) since 2011.

The SHARE BERLIN Institute GmbH (SBI) is the seat of the central coordination of SHARE and related scientific research. The SBI was founded in 2022 by the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Centre of Gerontology (DZA). The SBI and SHARE-ERIC work closely together on all questions of implementation and scientific advancement of the research infrastructure.

Coordinator of Research (f/m/d)
Part-time or full-time, minimum 30 hours per week, initially limited until July 31st, 2027, with prospective for contractual renewal.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and management of research with SHARE data at the SHARE BERLIN Institute
  • Creation and further development of a research plan together with the institutions of the partners and coordination of SHARE-based research between the six participating institutions (SHARE-ERIC, WZB, DIW, DZA, Charité and RKI), taking into account the greatest possible synergies
  • Establishment of effective communication channels between these partners (e.g. seminars, electronic platform)
  • Scientific supervision and counselling of SHARE Berlin Institute staff in their respective research projects
  • Mentoring, supporting and training of SHARE country teams
  • Research-based input into the development of questionnaires for the SHARE infrastructure
  • External communication of SHARE research results in the scientific community
  • Further development of the SHARE-based research strategy and profile building for basic research and evidence-based policy evaluation
  • Acquisition of funding from German, European, and international funders

Your profile:

  • Excellent scientific record, proven by a Ph.D. and top-ranked publications in economics, social sciences, demography, public health, or psychology, data science or a related field
  • A successful record of research grant applications
  • Experience with longitudinal survey data
  • Strong proficiency in English required, good knowledge of German desirable, knowledge of other languages welcome
  • Self-organized & highly proactive working style, team player mentality
