The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 48 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harbouring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with around 11.000 employees.

The IIDTM with the associated DZIF International Clinical Trials Unit specializes in large human cohort research, clinical trials and clinical/population-based intervention studies in the field of natural infections, vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics. The IIDTM is an internationally renowned research institution in the field of TB-, HIV- and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)- research, which is co-leading and/or involved in multiple international research consortia such as TB Sequel, Unite4TB, PanACEA, EraseTB. The institution harbours broad capacity and modern infrastructure for basic science, biostatistics, clinical trials and epidemiological research.

The scientific focus of the “Infection Epidemiology and Clinical TB Studies”- group is on the distribution and determinants of (respiratory) infections as well as the interaction between respiratory infections (mainly, tuberculosis, Covid-19) and long-term health outcomes in low-resource settings, with a specific focus on respiratory health. Our collaborative research activities with partners in Germany, sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe are deploying a comprehensive research approach on lung health, covering a broad spectrum of biological, clinical, epidemiological and socio-economic studies, which are embedded within several cohort studies, and clinical intervention trials targeting respiratory health, and will become the research focus of potential applicants.
