Thesis – Optimization of the Vehicle Motion Manager (Safety and Dynamics)

Stellenbeschreibung

This challenge awaits you:

The increasing complexity of modern vehicles requires innovative approaches to ensure driving stability and safety. The Vehicle Motion Manager (VMM) plays a crucial role in the intelligent coordination of different chassis features to achieve optimal vehicle dynamics. Your thesis will focus on the investigation and optimization of the VMM, taking into account various boundary conditions and uncertainties, in order to improve the efficiency and safety of the vehicle. Depending on your technical background, the following tasks are possible:

Your Tasks:

  • You will analyze and define conditions and limits for vehicle stability and control performance, including the development of fallback strategies in case of uncertainties and failures.
  • You will analyze safety functions in the chassis and evaluate standard-compliant recognition as a backup mechanism and their possible dependent failures.
  • You will recognize key signals and functional blocks that are important for the safety and performance of the system and define mechanisms for fault tolerance.
  • You will demonstrate and extend the definition and design of the VMM to ensure completeness and robustness of functionality.
  • You will develop an innovative concept that integrates deductive and inductive analysis techniques in the chassis domain to maximize safety and efficiency.

Necessary Skills:

  • Advanced studies in computer engineering, electrical engineering, communications engineering, automotive engineering or a comparable course of study
  • Strong communication skills and team spirit
  • Independent and goal-oriented working style

Desired Skills:

  • Ideally, previous knowledge of ISO 26262 and system development

Location: Gifhorn

IAV’s largest development center is located in Gifhorn, in close proximity to Volkswagen, our key account customer and shareholder. More than 3,000 development engineers from all disciplines and areas of expertise work here to develop the mobility solutions of the future. The technical infrastructure at this site is also second to none. It extends from our own crash facility via various roller dynamometers, battery and fuel cell test benches, acoustic labs and climate chambers through to the VR Lab for virtual and augmented reality (xReality). Furthermore, the canteen at IAV Gifhorn serves the world’s best Currywurst (sausage in curry sauce). Welcome to IAV in Gifhorn!
