Created on January 1st 2008, CMA Ships is a fully-owned subsidiary of CMA CGM with the objective to manage all fleet related operations.

CMA Ships is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified and operates under various flags’ Documents of Compliance (DOC).

A team of more than 4,700 seafarers of all nationalities including more than 300 cadets are working at sea and ashore. It includes a Marine Human Resources Department to accompany the seafarers, a fleet management department with more than 40 superintendents ashore, a dedicated department supervising the ship-buildings, the development of IT systems and working on energy issues and innovation with engine experts, a dedicated Purchasing department, a specialized team to organize the vessel dry docks as well as a team of experts to run the Fleet Navigation and Support Center to monitor the CMA CGM fleet 24/24.

With a modern and innovative fleet to the service of excellence and safety, tomorrow’s vessel devices are designed and tested such as LNG energy, engine tuning or hull shape optimization… acting every day for a more sustainable shipping Industry.

OPEX Business Controller (f/m/d)

The OPEX Business Controller role is key in enhancing operational efficiency and cost management. Collaborating with Operational Teams and Senior Management, this role ensures financial performance aligns with strategic objectives. It requires a deep understanding of financial principles and operational processes. Providing detailed financial analysis, the OPEX Business Controller shapes the organization's financial health and operational effectiveness. This role enables informed decision-making, optimizes resource allocation, and drives sustainable growth, contributing to the company's competitive advantage.

Your responsibilities:
As per company standards, you shall:
Comply with IMS and all relevant international rules and regulations

Ensure all your duties in accordance with quality, health, safety, environmental and ethics policies

Propose a continuous performance improvement plan which will be reported and reviewed on a periodical basis

Collect, ensure reliability and consolidate operational and financial data related to vessel running costs

Perform actual vs budget monthly analysis, committed vs budget analysis

Produce financial reporting and contribute to the production of the monthly reporting package

Contribute to support the business in decision making process

Monthly closing

Assess and book provision into accounting

Perform controls and analysis of accounts

Contribute to financial reporting to the Group (Actual, Flash, Forecast)

Check operational and financial data (IFRS accounting and Management accounting bookings)

Review financials of projects in progress

Liaise with accounting department

Support decision making

Support the Senior Management in:
o Producing Fleet / Series / Vessel review analysis

o Contributing to the design and production of KPI dashboards

o Contribute to the design of the yearly budget and forecasts

Participate in cross-functional projects to drive business growth and innovation

Cost management

Contribute to the design of the yearly budget and forecasts

Monitor engaged costs versus budget and raise attention to operation in case of deviations

Analyze cost structures and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements

Enhance the organization's financial performance through meticulous cost control

Coordination with Operational departments

Support and challenge the operational departments in the budgeting of vessel running costs

Interact daily with operational departments to understand vessel operations and anticipate financial impacts

Support continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing operational performance

Compliance and Risk Management

Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with operational activities

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation

You bring aboard:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) required in accounting, business control or Finance

Competent with various software programs, such as, but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint & Word, etc.

Experience from 2 to 5 years in business control preferred

Experience in ERP systems and especially in SAP is considered an advantage

Proficient English language skills are mandatory, German and French language skills will be appreciated

Analytical and organizational skills

Rigor and method with strong attention to details

Able to manage strict deadlines, result oriented

Effective verbal, written and presentation skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, open-minded
