Knowledge@BCG consists of the Knowledge Team (KT), Data & Research Services (DRS) and Knowledge & Collaboration Solution (KCS). KT is a group of experts within respective fields or areas providing industry, functional and geographic expertise to consulting teams. KT members are aligned to Practice Areas, sometimes serving as members of case or project teams. KT offers insight into a topic or function derived from BCG's knowledge base and case/project experience. The members of our DRS team work alongside consulting team colleagues to bring advanced research capabilities to support projects and clients. KCS team is a cross-functional team equipping BCGers with internal and external knowledge resources and digital collaboration tools, enabling them to work smarter and with increased productivity.


What You'll Do

The Language Services Manager's primary role is to lead the different components of the Language Services function in a specific region. You act as the main point of contact for all translation, proofreading, interpretation, editing, transcribing, and copyrighting requirements, the coordination and management of these services in addition to the in-house team and external vendors relations. You will manage or support the service coordination team namely on complex LS requests that require advanced project management and cross-regional project collaboration skills namely on multilingual projects. This means ensuring KPIs are met, quality control is in place, necessary negotiations are made, capacity is well distributed and utilized, and information security is adhered to. You are also expected to manage the performance review of your direct reports, and career development related topics. You will also be responsible for delivering the yearly operational plan and managing the team budget.


The key day to day responsibilities will be:

  • Manage a team of 10-12 linguists, capacity planning, people, and team development.
  • Capacity planning: analyze demand and hiring needs in light of business growth and forecast headcount.
  • Collaborate with the recruiting team to select, test, and shortlist the right profiles.
  • Create a comprehensive onboarding plan for new hires to enable them to smoothly integrate into the team and ramp up.
  • Work with global and local L&D teams to identify the team's learning needs and finding ways to best address them.
  • Coach team members to help them grow through the career path ahead of them or within their roles. Enable direct reports by delegating and entrusting them with initiatives and responsibilities that aim at creating function-wide impact.
  • Manage the entire PDG process for the team and ensure regular feedback is provided driving your team's performance throughout the year supporting goal setting.
  • Set a strategic direction and set a plan to implement it for the team in line with functional and business goals.
  • Own functional development initiatives within your team and collaborate with managers from other regions and cross-functional stakeholders to elevate the service level and create efficiencies.
  • Look for creative ways to achieve time and cost optimization through integration and process redesign.
  • Develop and maintain SLAs and KPIs for the team adapting to changing business factors and industry trends.
  • Own service delivery and support the coordination team by providing structural on-the-job training and advice on how to manage complex projects that require extensive negotiation and alignment with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support on translation and proofreading during peak times when possible and needed.
  • Onboard new vendors and collaborate with the Procurement, Information security, Supplier Risk teams to formalize the relationship and ensure all contractual and security risks are covered and maintained throughout the contractual period.
  • Negotiate vendor prices and identify opportunities to create cost efficiencies and achieve savings.
  • Audit and administer vendors invoices, track, approve and align with the relevant AP team to ensure the right processes are in place for each vendor


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, or an equivalent degree
  • Experience with CAT tools in general and in CAT tools project management.
  • Preferably 10+ years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years of BCG previous experience
  • 3+ years of previous experience in leading a translation team.
  • Very good organization and planning skills
  • Excellent translation, editing and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of business language in English and native language
  • Advanced level in Microsoft tools
  • Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, intellectually intense, service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to respect all BCG information as personal and confidential.
